Electronic Certificate (FNMT)
Get your FNMT digital certificate for secure online transactions, tax filing, and government services in Spain.
Step 1: Set Up Your Computer
Configuracion previa - install the FNMT configurator before you do anything else.
Why this step comes first
The FNMT configurator installs the software your browser needs to generate and store your certificate's private key. You must install it on the same computer you will use for every remaining step, and you should not reformat that computer or change its user account until the certificate is downloaded at the end of the process.
Download and install the configurator
Choose the download that matches your operating system, run the installer, and restart your browser once it finishes.
Before you continue, check that
- • The configurator finished installing without errors
- • You are on the computer you intend to use for the whole process
- • Your antivirus or a proxy is not blocking the installer - this is the most common cause of a failed install
Step 2: Request Your Certificate
Solicitar certificado - submit your request on the FNMT Sede Electronica.
Submit your request
Now that the configurator is installed, go to the FNMT Sede Electronica and fill in the request form with your NIF/NIE and an email address you can access.

Once you submit the request, FNMT emails you a Codigo de Solicitud (request code). Save this code somewhere safe - you'll need it to prove your identity in Step 3 and again to download the finished certificate in Step 4.
Step 3: Prove Your Identity
Acreditar identidad - verify who you are in person before the certificate can be issued.
Book an identity-accreditation appointment
Once you have your Codigo de Solicitud, you must accredit your identity in person at a registration office (for example a police station, tax agency office, or another office that offers this FNMT service).

Descargar certificado - the final step, once your identity has been accredited.
Download and install the certificate
After your identity has been accredited, return to the FNMT download page from the same computer you used in Steps 1 and 2. Enter your details and the Codigo de Solicitud to generate and install the certificate.

You have worked through every step of the procedure. Download and install the certificate from the same computer you used for the request, with the configurator still in place.

- Certificate downloaded and installed
Back the certificate up once it is installed
Export it to a password-protected file and keep that somewhere safe, along with the Codigo de Solicitud from step 2.
