NIE application

NIE application

Apply for your Número de Identidad de Extranjero - the foreigner identification number required for most administrative and financial procedures in Spain.

Check eligibility

Step 1 of 6

EU citizens can apply for a NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) using a valid passport or national ID card.

Required

  • EU citizenship
  • Valid passport or national ID

If you plan to stay in Spain longer than 90 days, the official procedure is to apply for the CUE (EU Residency Certificate).

When applying for the CUE, a NIE number is automatically assigned. The NIE white paper is often used as a quicker option because it requires fewer documents.

Prepare documents

Step 2 of 6

You must bring the following documents to your appointment at the police station.
