Step 1 of 7
To apply for the CUE, EU citizens must demonstrate:
- Valid passport or EU national ID card
- Proof of sufficient income or employment
- Health insurance coverage in Spain

Self-employed, remote worker, retired, or other situation
Your employment contract covers you
A Spanish indefinite contract proves both sufficient income and health insurance via Social Security.
You will need:
- Indefinite Spanish labour contract (contrato SEPE)
- Vida Laboral (work history from Social Security)
You must prove income and insurance separately
- Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements, pension docs, payslips)
- Private health insurance without copayment (sin copago)

Most police stations require a Certificado de Empadronamiento (Padrón certificate) to process your CUE application.
Important: Your Padrón must be less than 3 months old at the time of appointment.

What is the Modelo 790?
The Tasa 790 (Code 012) is the administrative tax for CUE registration. Complete it online, print it, and pay at a bank.
If you don't have a NIE yet, leave the field empty or write "PENDING".
Instructions
- Complete the Modelo 790 online (Code 012)
- Print two copies of the form
- Pay the fee at a bank (approx. €15.76 — verify on official site)
- Keep the bank-stamped copy as proof of payment
